As if New Orleans could tolerate any more damage after
Hurricane Katrina, along came Hurricane Rita. It occurred on September 24, 2005
as a category 3 hurricane caused the largest evacuation on record and $11
billion dollars in damage across the coast (NOLA Media Group 2016). Rita
victims claim that they also had to wait long periods of time for help because
all the responders were working in New Orleans after Katrina and it took the
smaller towns awhile to gain attention (NOLA Media Group 2016). Rita took a smaller
toll than Katrina had, however, the people were and still are to this day
struggling to come back. Louisiana has lost a good bit of its population and
they are still working to draw people back into the area.
